Stranger Things

Aurora Borealis displayed over the Napeague Stretch during a strange weather phenomenon in Montauk. The "Northern Lights" are caused by atomic particles from the sun being funneled into a ring around the poles, called the auroral oval. The Northern Lights ride atmospheric currents that can measure up to 50,000 volts and up to 20 million amperes, which is why they can disturb magnetic waves and devices.

Easy Riser

Birds enjoying a golden morning at Ditch Plains beach in Montauk. A deed from 1676 shows the word “Choppaughshapaughhausuck,” which was used to describe “the place where the brook opens; the ditch of outlet of Great Pond on the south.” The Great Pond refers to Lake Montauk. It has become a nesting destination for birds and surfers alike. One of the last true gems of Montauk.

Ready For Flight

An Osprey flaps its wings while perched above the marshes of the Napeague Stretch during sunset. The old electrical shed that still remains here has became a perfect resting place for birds. With no shortage of fish to choose from, the Osprey have made nests all along the Napeague Bay. Once home to the old Smith Meal Fish factory, which produced Oil out of Bunker Fish. When the factory closed, the surrounding structures were repurposed or left abandoned.

Golden Grasses

Light illuminates off the marsh grasses on Gerard Drive Point in Springs during sunrise. In one of the most diverse tidal marshes on the East Coast, you're almost always guaranteed to see an Osprey in season on the hunt or a Red Tailed Hawk at work.
